Red rooibos is a remarkable South African botanical, native to the rugged Cederberg Mountains of the Western Cape, where it grows in sandy, mineral-rich soils beneath the warmth of the African sun. Unlike conventional tea, rooibos comes from a shrub rather than the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Its fine, needle-like leaves and stems are carefully harvested, cut and bruised before undergoing a natural oxidation process that transforms their green colour into the distinctive copper-red hue for which rooibos is loved. The leaves are then dried in the sun, developing their naturally sweet, earthy aroma and beautifully rounded flavour. Organically grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, red rooibos reflects the unique landscape from which it comes. Naturally caffeine-free and rich in plant polyphenols, it has long been enjoyed in South Africa as an everyday herbal infusion, traditionally used to soothe digestion and provide comfort. There is something wonderfully grounding about rooibos, with its warm, mellow character and gentle sweetness. A nourishing tisane to enjoy throughout the day and into the evening, inviting a moment of warmth, simplicity and restoration.
Botanical Name: Aspalathus linearis
Part Used: Leaves and fine stems
Aroma: Naturally sweet, warm and earthy, with subtle honey, woody and nutty notes.
Traditionally Used by Naturopaths & Herbalists: As a gentle, caffeine-free herbal infusion to support digestive comfort, particularly for occasional indigestion, abdominal discomfort and colic. Rooibos contains naturally occurring polyphenols, including aspalathin and nothofagin, which have demonstrated antioxidant activity in laboratory research. It is also enjoyed as a soothing everyday beverage suitable for those wishing to reduce their caffeine intake.

Natural Variations: Variations in flavour, colour, and texture are a natural reflection of the living ingredients we use. Differences arise from seasonality, soil health, origin, and the cut of each botanical. As small-batch producers, we maintain exceptional quality control, ensuring every blend meets our standards while honouring the inherent diversity of nature. These variations are not flaws, but a testament to authenticity.
Tisane vs Tea: A tisane refers to a herbal infusion made from flowers, leaves, roots, seeds, or fruits, and is naturally caffeine-free. Tea, in the traditional sense, refers specifically to preparations made from the leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. This includes white, green, oolong, black teas and everything in between, all of which naturally contain caffeine in varying amounts.
The quality stainless steel scoop on this infuser features fine perforations to allow a natural flow of water through your tea leaves and filters the leaves, reducing residue in your mug as your tea steeps in the boiling water. When your tea is the strength and colour you enjoy, simply remove the infuser and discard the used leaves, rinsing clean, ready for your next relaxing moment.

- Stainless steel
- Fine perforations
- Easy open/close action

Traditionally used by Naturopaths & Herbalists to help soothe the gut - tummy discomfort, wind, bloating and inflammation, refresh the breath and cool a fever. It has also traditionally been used to support hormonal balance, particularly in women with elevated androgens such as testosterone. It has been shown to have anti-androgenic effects, helping to lower free testosterone levels by influencing how androgens are produced and metabolised in the body. This can be especially supportive in conditions such as PCOS, where excess testosterone may contribute to symptoms like acne, excess hair growth, and irregular cycles. It is commonly used as an infusion, taken daily, as a gentle and accessible way to assist in restoring hormonal equilibrium. For the specific health benefits refer to A-Z Botanical Ingredients

- Open Windows: Open a window or door to allow the negative energy to leave the space and fresh air to enter.
- Set Your Intention: Take a moment to set a clear intention for your smudging ritual. This could be to cleanse negative energy, bring in positive vibes, or simply to refresh the space.
Step 2: Lighting the Smudge Stick
- Hold the Smudge Stick: Hold the smudge stick at a 45-degree angle, with the tip pointing downward.
- Light the End: Use a lighter or match to light the tip of the smudge stick. Let it catch fire and allow it to burn for about 20-30 seconds.
-
Blow Out the Flame: Gently blow out the flame so that the smudge stick smolders and produces smoke. The tip should glow red, and a steady stream of smoke should rise.
Step 3: Smudging Your Space
- Walk Around the Space: Holding the smudge stick over a fireproof dish to catch any ash, walk slowly around the space you wish to cleanse. Move clockwise around the room, paying special attention to corners, doorways, and windows where energy tends to stagnate.
- Use a Feather or Fan: If you have a feather or fan, use it to guide the smoke into the areas you want to cleanse. Gently waft the smoke throughout the space.
- Recite a Mantra or Prayer: As you move through the space, you may wish to recite a mantra, prayer, or affirmation that aligns with your intention.
Step 4: Smudging Objects
- Hold the Object: Hold the object you wish to cleanse in the smoke. This could be a crystal, piece of jewelry, or any other personal item.
- Pass Through the Smoke: Pass the object through the smoke several times, ensuring it is thoroughly enveloped.
Step 5: Smudging Yourself or Others
- Waft Smoke: To cleanse yourself or another person, waft the smoke around the body, starting from the feet and moving upward towards the head.
- Set an Intention: While doing this, set an intention for purification and protection.
Step 6: Extinguishing the Smudge Stick
- Press into Dish: Once you have finished smudging, gently press the smudge stick into the fireproof dish to extinguish the embers.
- Ensure it is Out: Ensure the smudge stick is completely out and not burning before storing it.
Safety Tips
- Always stay present and mindful when using a smudge stick.
- Keep water nearby in case of emergencies.
- Never leave a burning smudge stick unattended.
