Naturopathic Consultation with Anthia
This year marks 30 years of naturopathic clinical practice. It's hard for me to believe it too! I graduated as a Naturopath, Homoeopath, and Herbalist at the end of 1994 and started consulting almost immediately. I also have a Bachelor in Health Science.
My Naturopathic Clinic, Apothecary, and Apotheca by Anthia Tea & Tisane Store is located in Surry Hills, Sydney Australia. This is where you will find me seeing patients, blending herbal tonics and creating teas & tisanes.
Akademeia by Anthia, our online portal, is where you will find my Courses & Programs, based on over 30 years of Naturopathic know how & clinical experience. My book I am Food - Eating Your Way To Health was published in 2014. A new edit launched in January 2023. New Graduate of Naturopathy
Naturopathic Consultation with Maddie Lyons
Maddie Lyons is a naturopath who qualified in 2023 with a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy) from Endeavour College of Natural Health, Gold Coast campus. Her work is centred around herbal medicine, food as medicine, and lifestyle modifications to restore health and wellbeing. Maddie is passionate about the power of natural medicines and taking the gentle approach to treating ailments. Originally from Sydney, Maddie has ancestral roots in Ireland and senses a connection to its rich heritage of medicinal plants.
Maddie discovered naturopathy through her own health concerns. A naturopath helped to resolve a recurrent respiratory illness, uncovering mould exposure and nutrient deficiencies. Using herbs and nutrients, she was able to enhance her immune system and adapt to stressors, whilst addressing the root cause. Maddie discovered the importance of being heard, exploring diet and lifestyle, as well as environmental and emotional factors.
Following her own experience with naturopathic medicine, working in childcare and hearing the health concerns of women and mothers in her life, Maddie decided to focus her studies on women’s reproductive health and children’s health conditions.
Since graduating one year ago, Maddie has gained experience consulting in her online naturopathic business and recently joined the Apotheca team working in a clinic, retail and dispensary environment under the mentorship of naturopath and herbalist Anthia Koullouros.
During her studies, Maddie worked for organic herb nursery Mudbrick Herb Cottage in Mudgeeraba, Queensland preparing herb orders, harvesting herb plants and manufacturing herbal products under the guidance of naturopath and herbalist Sandra Nanka. Maddie has previous experience producing a range of herbal skincare and self-care products and facilitating herbal medicine making workshops for Malakite Herbal in the Northern Rivers and Gold Coast region. Most recently she presented workshops on herbal infused oils and holistic stress management.
Outside of naturopathy, Maddie is involved in sailing, regularly competing in offshore and inshore events. From smaller dinghies to bigger yachts, she enjoys working as a team and spending time on the water.
About Naturopathy
Naturopathy blends traditional medicine with conventional healthcare to work with naturally and holistically healing the mind & body. It is a distinct system of traditional and complementary medicine recognised by the World Health Organisation. It is defined by its philosophic approach to patient care rather than the treatments practitioners use.
"Worldwide, over 98 countries have practicing naturopaths, representing 36% of all countries and every world region. Find out more here. To date, research in whole-system, multi-modality naturopathic medicine shows that it is effective for treating cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal pain, type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, depression, anxiety, and a range of complex chronic conditions." Naturopathy goes beyond merely alleviating symptoms and managing diseases; it addresses the underlying causes by treating the body, mind, and spirit. This holistic approach involves identifying and removing obstacles to recovery, allowing for natural healing. By focusing on the root causes, naturopathy helps resolve health issues more effectively and sustainably.
Moreover, naturopathy provides harmless treatment through the use of herbs, supplements, and dietary and lifestyle measures, which are less harmful than conventional medications when prescribed correctly, ensuring minimal side effects. This practice recognizes the individuality of each person, offering holistic treatment that addresses all aspects of health. Education is a key component, empowering individuals to self-care and manage their health through knowledge—from self-care to self-healing. Additionally, naturopathy emphasises preventive medicine, teaching individuals how to care for themselves and reduce the risk of disease.
