It’s Not Your Fault You’re Sick

Why is it that we can do ‘all the right things’ and feel unwell?

Why do we get sick, despite our best efforts to eat the right food and adopt the right habits? It’s a question I return to often with patients in my clinic. But the reality is, it’s not your fault you’re sick, and in this episode, we discuss why, including:

  • Why illness isn't a personal failure but a reflection of our interconnected environment.

  • How healing starts not with blame, but with awareness of what we can change.

  • Ways to reconnect with nature and our body as an integral part of recovery.

The Deep, Mysterious Well

In my work, whether in patient sessions or writing my book, I often dwell on why we struggle to heal. Two thoughts persistently follow me: "Is it my fault I'm sick?" and "Why wouldn't I be?"

These thoughts unravel the complexities of illness in our interconnected world.

The truth is, your illness isn't solely due to personal choices. You're influenced by family systems, communities, and global ecosystems. The question isn't just "Why am I sick?" but rather "Why wouldn't I be?"

Navigating a Toxic World

Our world is filled with chronic stress, environmental toxins, and processed foods. We face unrelenting demands, fractured communities, and a life out of sync with natural rhythms.

In this toxic "soup," our bodies reflect these stresses. But sickness isn't a sign of weakness. Instead, it’s an honest response to an unwell ecosystem.

Beyond Blame: What Now?

Healing isn't about eliminating blame. It's about awareness. It involves asking what you can shift today to support your wellbeing.

Change happens incrementally: one small decision at a time. Consider your capacity to make choices, no matter how small, that align you with healthier living and interactions.

Reconnecting with Nature

At the heart of healing lies a return to nature, the original healer. Nature functions as our biological guide and equaliser, reminding us of rhythms we have forgotten. Symptoms are not punishments; they're messages guiding us back to balance.

Healing in Connection

We aren't meant to heal alone. Join others in realising that illness is not your fault, and believe in the possibility of healing through connections to nature, to each other, and to oneself. Whether through rest, nourishment, or mindful awareness, healing requires embracing the cycle of life we belong to.

Remember: healing begins with awareness, the gentle turning to self-care, and the realisation that within us and around us lies the path to health.
